1.
What got you into cosplay?
Some friends had
been talking about anime conventions and this "cosplay thing"
and how we should all go to a convention, some of us had dressed up
in costumes that halloween and then we went to the AWA a few months
later and it was all downhill from there.
2. How do you choose who
you will cosplay?
Dunno. Sometimes, I just really, really get into the story or like the
character and it makes me want to cosplay, other times I just see something
that looks cool, interesting, challenging, and want to try and do it.
3. How has cosplay affected
your life?
Hmmm. I suppose, looking back, it made me more interested in costume
construction and props and stuff, I might have never tried out some
of the things I have and liked doing if I didn't have some bizarre need
to make a thingy. Also, I've met a lot of people I wouldn't have met
otherwise, that I'm glad I have.
4. What keeps you busy
outside of conventions?
Geez. everything. work, life, sleeping. Unless we're talking fun-busy,
in which case, whatever. Going out, hanging out, that sort of thing.
I have a couple non-cosplay design projects in the works that I've wanted
to do for a while...let's see if I can follow them through.
5. Do you see yourself
continuing to cosplay 5 years or 10 years from now?
Oooh. Hmmm, I dunno. Probably not. I'm finding myself less and less
able to take all the long weekends off and extra money to spend for
cons, but I enjoy hanging out with all my friends and such. I can sorta
see myself possibly doing creative things in a similar area, but I dunno!
I guess I'll just have to see where life takes me.
6. What is your dream
costume?
Man. Lemme think... I have lots of "I want to, someday..."
costumes to fill a huge list. Dream costume? I suppose for the longest
time it's been Yue from CCS, but nowadays I really, really want to do
certain armor and such, there's a set from World of Warcraft (don't
laugh, hah) that I've had my eye on for a long time cause it would be...awesome,
if I could make it, and do it well.
7. What is your favorite
costume you've done and why?
Hrm...as time has gone by I've always had a favorite costume, but then
a year later something comes along and it's favorite for a new reason.
Plus, even when I think something is totally awesome, I can always go
back and find things I could have improved in some way. I'm thinking
Kamina has been my funnest costume so far. I <3 Kamina. Epic cape
of epicness. Second to that might be Soma Cruz or Agreian. both of those,
while they weren't masterpieces, had things that I learned about or
tried new things with and came out decently.
8. Is there any advise
you can give for our visitors?
Uh. Well... Don't fall into that whole "cosplay drama" gossip
trap. Oh, it's entertaining for a little while, but eventually it ends
up involving you and then it sucks hardcore. Also, only use glue meant
for your skin on your skin. Don't use solvent based glues or hot glues.
Uhmmm and don't dye your hair or anything else in a hotel bathroom unless
you're really good at not making a dysplosiontastrophe. I learned that
the hard way. Then everyone gets stained blue and they don't talk to
you all weekend.
9. What is the hardest
part about cosplaying?
For me personally? I am a huge procrastinator, yet always want to do
all these tons of things and wait till the last minute. Also, I guess
I'm kind of a perfectionist, so I get really frustrated working on stuff
and feeling like it just won't turn out right and nitpicking everything
to death and driving all my friends crazy in the process. That, and
there's always that one, uncomfortable thing about a costume that you
kinda have to put up with for the sake of the costume.
10. Who would win in a
battle to the death? The King (Burger King) or Ronald McDonald? Why?
Oh god. I hate clowns, so I want to say ronald, since you know he'll
pull some sort of horrible axe out from one of his big clown pockets....but,
uh. The burger king is also kind of creepy in his own special way, and
he sneaks up to people and gives them breakfast.
Ok, burger king. A clown is too lame to win.
