1.
What got you into cosplay?
I always loved playing dress-up as a kid. When my friends invited me
to Otakon the summer after my first year of college I wanted to dress
up as Suzaku no Miko. My boyfriend at the time (Agent Bishie) agreed
to be Tamahome, and we had a blast! Not only was I hooked, but I dragged
more people into it the following year!
2. How do you choose who
you will cosplay?
Usually it's because I like the character. I try not to choose things
that are too difficult to make, or that won't be flattering to wear.
3. How has cosplay affected
your life?
I've learned sewing and wig styling skills, and its just a fabulous
outlet for creativity. It's also brought me closer to my friends. When
con season rolls around we get to spend weekends together sewing, painting
and sticking each other with pins.
4. What keeps you busy
outside of conventions?
I work full-time as an environmental educator. I get to take kids on
field trips and go into schools for assemblies. It's not too bad, I
spend half my work week at the beach. My marriage keeps me busy too,
it's hard to have 2 cosplayers in the house!
5. Do you see yourself
continuing to cosplay 5 years or 10 years from now?
5 years- probably. 10 years- I don't know. As long as I'm still having
fun, I don't see why not. Even if I stop going to cons I know I'll still
go all out for Halloween!
6. What is your dream
costume?
This is a dangerous question. I have about 20 costumes on my wishlist,
I hope to make all of them someday. The craziest of them is transformed
Nell from 'Elemental Gearbolt'. It's a first person shooter for the
PS1 that Working Designes released here. It's just a crazy organic-looking
mech design. It looks daunting now, but with each new costume I gain
more skills and what once seemed impossible becomes possible.
7. What is your favorite
costume you've done and why?
From a technical aspect it's Alice Seno. It's incomplete, but damn -
that was a lot of work. I put it down for a year, I didn't work on costumes
at all for most of that time. My friends helped me finish it a year
later, and we won an award for our group! It's hard to put it into words,
but the whole experience really gave me a lot of confidence and motivation.
Plus, the bunny ears are awesome.
8. Is there any advise
you can give for our visitors?
Bookmark our site! In fact, you should make it your homepage.
9. What is the hardest
part about cosplaying?
Finishing on time! I like making the small accessories first, so I'm
usually rushing to finish the actual garment before the con. Transporting
large props (and finding the space to work on them!) is also a challenge.
10. Who would win in a
battle to the death? The King (Burger King) or Ronald McDonald? Why?
The Burger King. Clowns are scary, but the King just doesn't seem to
feel any pain.
